Local Fashion #YEG

Whoa dude. Whoa.

Suspenders, white leopard, Amor body jewellery, leather, all black and varsity jackets. The Suka Clothing SS’14 collection spoke to me – “BUY ME, BUY ALL OF ME“. Or perhaps that was the little clothing-addicted-devil on my shoulder.

Alisha Schick for Suka Clothing is a local ready-to-wear designer and designs in-house for Bamboo Ballroom. Schick’s collection on Wednesday at Western Canada Fashion Week successfully surpassed it’s hype. The feminine silhouettes and edgy details like shoulder and waist cutouts, thigh high tights and body jewellery showed us the epitome of cool. The colour palette Shick used was subdued and left our focus on the aesthetic details such as her fine tuned tailoring skills.

Without a doubt, I died for every single piece and every model was effortlessly bad-ass. Please friends, have a little look-sy for yourself.

I told you I wasn’t kidding.

September is an exhausting fashion month. Between wrapping up an overloaded trip to NYC, then participating in our second Edmonton Fashion Blogger Wardrobe Sale a few days after my arrival home; now it’s on to Western Canada Fashion Week. Just when I think rest MUST be in store,  it’s time to pack up for a trip south to our friends in Calgary for the PARK LUXE fashion event on October 5.

In between the September fashion madness, there has been a specific show I was anticipating.  A fellow fashion blogger pal | vintage connoisseur | local designer Susanna Pearcey debuted her SS’14 collection at WCFW on Friday night.

We saw 10 consistent looks in total and each model oozed professionalism. The collection stemmed of loose fit dresses which fell below the knee, designed with structured lines and hems and a tasteful mixture of texture and prints throughout. I applaud Susanna’s consistency.

I was intrigued by the makeup and the soft curls in the hair was very on-point with the Great Gatsby. The dark lipstick added a shrill of boldness to the elegance of the sheer numbers that I loved so much.

It’s also always refreshing to see pieces that are actually wearable on the catwalk. Great job Suzie! Don’t forget me when you’re famous.

It’s not everyday you get to hang with fashion celebs – and I don’t just mean you Vickie.

Lisa Tant, VP Fashion Editor for Holt Renfrew visited Edmonton on a 3 city tour to present the Fall ’13 fashion trends that we are all secretly dying to break out. I, not so secretively… guys I am full fledged ready for summer to take a hike so that I can break out suede boots and faux fur.

Lisa chose a pink and red print Lida Biday fitted dress and black pumps to guide us through next seasons on-trend fashions. Five key fashionable trends each with a runway, street style and model look. Lisa refined that street style truly is the new way of fashion today – with thousands of style bloggers erupting in the industry this couldn’t be more true.

Lisa & myself. An honor as she is someone I have admired x.

St. Albert and Sherwood Park have something in common and it’s not just that they are each an up-and-coming suburb to the big city. They both house the fashionable boutique, Bella Maas. Bella Maas is a one stop shop – stroll in, you’ll find an outfit for those casual summer BBQs, wild night time patio parties and stylish mommy play dates.

Locally, its hard to find brands like Gypsy 05, L.A.M.B, Parker, Rebecca Taylor and Lauren Moshi. Lauren Moshi is a beloved brand of mine and Bella Maas is still my go-to for everything LM. Not to mention, with the boutique soon to add fashionable favorites Elizabeth and James and print savvy denim line Mother, we just might find ourselves camping outside their doors to get our hands on these hot items.

Close your eyes and imagine a denim and footwear heaven… but don’t stop there! Flirty dresses, denim shorts & vests (so huge right now), versatile tops, handbags and DeuxLux clutches for every occasion. ThinkHanky Panky lace bottoms, TOMs shades, Kutula Kiss beaded jewellery and Bootzie perfumes to accessorize.

It’s Tuesday. I am still recovering from my Sunday morning hangover.

As much as I should blame myself, I am going to happily place the blame on the crew at MadeinEDMTN for throwing a fashionable red carpet event at Skybridge City Centre. The soul and funk inspired party took me into my happy place, my Hennessy happy place. I am now well aware that exists.

So, what did MadeinEDMTN bring to the table for the big event? Wild, soulful, hip-shaking entertainment, including Blair Junior from BowerYEG. I danced even though my feet were on fire in my JC Litas. Impeccable, delicious catering from The Melting Pot served by beautiful butlers. We came after we ate dinner. I ate another dinner and didn’t even feel bad about it. There were five bars – each station sponsored by different brands of liquor to cater to all. We spent too much a lot of time at the Hennessy bar. A Hennessy mojito is now my new summer drink, thanks guys.

Side Note: In preparing for many, many drinks and a night on the town with my husband, the Canon stayed home where it belonged. Bear in mind, unfortunately my shitty IPhone pictures do not do this event any justice.

photo4Hey, look this way guys! The MadeinEDMTN crew x.

Not to mention, on our way out I had a hilarious impromptu photo shoot on the red carpet with MadeinEDMTN’s Jessica Clark. Looking forward to seeing those photos. Or am I?

I have read the tweets that the gift bags were fantastic, including fashionable cufflinks for the men. The mojitos must have gotten to me, I forgot to grab mine. If you didn’t make it to this event, make sure you check out the next one. You know how to throw one badass party MadeinEDMTN, proving how unique Edmonton really is. Until next time…

This May long weekend may have been filled with camping and beer bongs for some but for local Edmonton fashion bloggers it turned out to be the end of a closet sorting & de-hoarding prep week. Hundreds of unique pieces from 10 fashion obsessed blogger’s wardrobes made up the sale. By purging our closets we compiled designer, fast fashion and vintage pieces for nearly nothing, all for you!

Thanks to Marie from Marie a la Mode for the invite to participate, myself, Vickie of Adventures in Fashion, Jenna of Smitten, Melanie Of Born Lippy, Sandy of The Pretty Secrets, Alyssa of Ordinary People, Susanna of A Clean Well Lit Style blog and Jenn of Lux Beauty Boutique spent the afternoon at Phabrik Art + Design studio selling off our things, seeing old faces and meeting new readers.

If you’re just catching up now, unsold pieces were donated for a bargain sale happening on June 22 to benefit the iHuman Youth Society. All in the good name of fashion!

With tons of social media frenzy, customer turnout was impressive for being a newbie event. Stay tuned if you missed this one friends, we are hoping to plan another sale in September.

Well, it’s finally here folks. Target Canada has arrived. Thousands of Canadians and frequent-US-travelling-Target-lovers were anticipating this addition to Canadian retail since it was announced over two years ago. I am one of them.

Nothing goes off without a hitch. Canadians complain, many being disappointed with Targets selection and prices. It’s annoying. No, not Target. YOU, you complainers. Opening week, I hit the St. Albert location 4 times. Yes, 4. With each visit, the selection dwindled and sizes were few and farther in between, but unless you were there at least some point on opening day, what did you expect? It’s kind of like your favourite band… if you don’t call TicketMaster at 10AM sharp – that shit gets sold out.

I got some serious summer items and not one of them was more expensive than $24.99. Were the “complainers” disappointed because the ALREADY cheap prices weren’t cheap enough for them? Rest assured, there should be more noticeable markdowns and sales when the official Grand Opening is held at the end of May – WITH restocked inventory. Remind yourself, their prices are on par with Walmart and Superstore and Target is way cooler.

I do, however agree that empty shelves on opening day is unacceptable. Re-strategize how you visually merchandise if you are low on product.

Alas, I am a satisfied customer. With each visit I always came out with something that I was super excited about and hardly waited in line.

What are your thoughts? Did Target fail miserably in meeting your expectations OR are you a supporter like moi? I wonder if those “complainers” will still be unsatisfied when (okay, IF) a MAJOR collaboration is announced. You can stay home when it’s debuted, I will go collect the goodies.
