I came across this diagram and thought it was a good representation of all of the bad PR floating around the fashion world. Those infamous industry insiders (say that three times) who blatantly show time and time again their dislike for each other, authenticate that the fashion world can be like an on-going bad episode from high-school. Remember the movie Mean Girls – or in some cases your own senior year – the competition, the cliques and the trash talking? Except in this case, their low-blows are more along the lines of excluding an invite, creating fourth row nobodies, banned from attending showcases or straight up criticizing. It’s actually kind of hilarious.
Clearly, Cathy Horyn is leading the race in the, ‘Who’s pissed off more people’ category. Rightfully so, this is a journalist who doesn’t give a shit, but why should she? She is intelligent and forthright. Take a note: We should all live by in-your-face honesty. Cathy’s hot dog / stale 3 day old burger argument with Oscar de la Renta was obviously the most ridiculous but the Armani / Dolce & Gabbana cat fight proves that copyright feuds aren’t old news. It doesn’t stop there, Keifer Sutherland and Proenza Schouler’s Jack Mccollough seriously beat the shit out of each other! Oh, never mind, Keifer was strung out again and head butted the designer over… Brooke Shields? That guy needs jail and perhaps rehab.
The fashion world is a tight knit circle, you can be out as fast as you were in. As consumers, the image of fashion experts and designers that you undoubtedly so respect, isn’t jaded by their public feuds but for them – it can create a familiar spot on the black list.
Were you as surprised as I was to see Michelle Obama on the list?
