Paris Fashion Week – Christian Dior

Okay guys, my invite to the House of Dior must have gotten lost in the mail. Raf Simmons debut RTW presentation was anticipated. I saw youthful energy and short hemlines and it was perhaps less elegant then Dior’s typical roots. The brands transition since Galliano’s departure appears more architectural and a lot less romantic. Surprising considering Raf’s Haute Couture presentation in July.

There were toned down, solid black looks that were made to look alive with vibrant makeup and crisp neck ties. The hemlines were high and mini skirts and elaborate evening shorts were emphasized. I loved the cool party dresses, especially the stripes and always refreshing to see lengthier and edgy evening wear. Interestingly enough, he referenced the peplum silhouette tracing 1947s ‘new look’ to close the show with the right amount of nostalgia. A little bit of fashion history. I think he did impressive on his RTW debut but I wouldn’t go as far as saying outstanding or show stopping.  Just… a very good job.

Tomorrow: Dries van Noten. Amazing! Went to a children’s hospital fundraiser fashion show last night, great food, company and clothes. Love weekends. Goodnight.
