A close friend of mine has a very cool collector’s Barbie collection. It’s been so many years since I’ve played with the iconic doll and until I saw her assortment I didn’t realize that Barbie had become so a la mode. Since 1959, Barbie has kept up with trends and had dozens of careers and styles, it’s no wonder that big fashion labels have teamed up with Mattel to create red-soled dolls. After all, Barbie is a fashion icon herself.
I only have a son and didn’t want more children but thanks to fashion luxury brands like Diane Von Furstenburg, Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, Tarina Tarintino and Versace designing for Barbie – I feel the need to bear a daughter so she can play with these fabulous toys. I think I am
Some of the top designers in the Council of Fashion Designers America contributed to the ‘Barbie basics’ collection in 2010 and designed 12 one of a kind dolls, each in their own version and silhouette of the classic LBD. You know that Barbie rocks a LBD. These included Rachel Roy, Betsey Johnson, Isaac Mizrahi and Kate Spade. BARBIE IS SERIOUSLY SPOILT.
I actually had it all, a Barbie jaguar, a Barbie RV, a Barbie apartment building with an elevator, even a Barbie McDonald’s with Barbie size cheeseburgers. I guess all that I am missing in a Barbie dressed in Karl Lagerfeld and Vera Wang.
Can you guess who designed each of these looks?
By now you all agree, you’re never too old for Barbies in Louboutins 😉
